Delta Air Lines is closing its India-based call centers according to the WSJ. They’re bring the operations back to the States.
Delta admits that it’s cost effective to keep the call centers in India but evidently the customer satisfaction level with the service from there is low. Though Delta didn’t mention it, the article suggests that the recession and political considerations may have something to do with the decision as well.
I’ll admit to having missed this but evidently there is something of a trend here. Several other companies have pulled out of India. The outsourcing industry in India is suffering mightily as a result.
I suspect that globalization is going to look a lot different after the recession than it did before.
