Administration Tries To Tone Down The AIG Bonus Rhetoric

Jered Bernstein, Biden’s economic adviser, said this morning that the House bill may go too far.

“I think the president would be concerned that this bill may have some problems in going too far — the House bill may go too far in terms of some — some legal issues, constitutional validity, using the tax code to surgically punish a small group,” Bernstein said in a television interview. “That may be a dangerous way to go.”

The President should have taken this tack initially rather than trying to duck the issue. At least they seem to recognize the dangers. Now let’s see if they have the courage to fight on this one.
