Can we please get a break. The U.S. Postal Service has announced that it is raising the cost of a first class stamp by two cents in May.

Here is their logic (that word is used casually):

“The Postal Service is not immune to rising costs which are affecting homes and businesses across America today,” said Postmaster General John Potter. “Even with the increases, the Postal Service continues to offer some of the lowest postage prices in the world.”

What planet is this guy living on? Does he not know that another branch of the government is mightily worried about deflation? Is he not aware that he could replace his entire work force at, say around 75% of his current personnel expense? Will someone pleas sit down with this guy and bring him up to date.

The only thing that would make this more intolerable would be to find out that the increase is due to automatic cost of living escalators in his union contracts.
